Frequently Asked Questions
Equipment contribution, pickup, freight, data drive destruction and repurposed hardware
1. What is Silicon Rescue?
Silicon Rescue collects used or unused IT equipment from upgrades, replacements, refresh cycles, decommissions, closures and cleanouts. We physically destroy customer data drives and storage media with documentation, then repurpose usable hardware with new sealed drives for organizations and people who need technology.
2. What equipment can be contributed?
We collect computers, laptops, workstations, servers, peripherals, networking equipment and usable non-storage components. Hard drives, SSDs and removable storage media are physically destroyed and are never reused.
3. Are customer data drives ever reused?
No. Customer hard drives, SSDs and removable storage media are physically destroyed and are not reused, resold or redeployed. When a repurposed system needs storage, we install new sealed drives with no prior data.
4. Can Silicon Rescue pick up equipment or handle freight?
Yes, depending on the equipment, location and quantity. We can schedule local pickup when practical, coordinate freight and help cover freight costs for qualified equipment, or receive a scheduled delivery at our intake location.
5. How does the equipment contribution process work?
Contact us with a list, photos, quantities and pickup or shipping location. We review what can be accepted, choose the right logistics path, separate and physically destroy data drives, provide documentation, then refurbish usable hardware with new sealed drives for community placement.
6. Who can receive repurposed hardware?
Repurposed hardware may be placed with or loaned to local or international nonprofits, schools, academies, religious organizations, charities, job-search programs, low-income families and students when functional equipment is available.
7. How do you contribute to sustainability?
By collecting used or unused IT equipment, destroying data drives, refurbishing functional hardware and placing it with people who need technology, we extend hardware life and reduce avoidable electronic waste.
8. Do you sell the repurposed hardware?
The main mission is placement or loan, not resale. Functional hardware can support nonprofits, schools, academies, religious organizations, charities, job-search programs, students and low-income families when availability allows.
9. What happens to equipment that cannot be repurposed?
Material that cannot be safely or practically repurposed is routed toward responsible recycling. The goal is to reduce avoidable electronic waste while keeping customer data drives physically destroyed.
10. How can I contact Silicon Rescue?
You can contact us through our contact form. We can answer questions about equipment contribution, data drive destruction documentation, repurposed hardware requests and responsible recycling.
